I did tried to install the driver by using the Install Driver window (Main --> Control Panel --> Drivers --> Add --> Install Driver) from the floppy (A:\) but the Install Driver window repeatedly popped up, as if if doesn't recongnize the .inf driver at all in the A: You don't need modems drivers running Win3.*.

When you say your fax modem/phone tools software quit working, exactly what do you mean? If you can't scan a document in order to fax, it may be that the CAPTURE FAX BVRP printer driver has been lost. That can happen with Phone Tools.
